What do insurance adjusters look for during a roof inspection?

Insurance adjusters are trained to look for very specific types of damage when evaluating your roof. For hail claims, they’re checking for fractures, bruising, granule loss, and impact marks. For wind claims, they’re inspecting for lifted or missing shingles, creased shingle tabs, and signs of water intrusion.

They also assess whether the damage is recent, storm-related, and whether it compromises the integrity of the roof. Documentation is key—which is why having a contractor like Revive Exteriors (with a former insurance adjuster on staff) makes a difference. We know what they’re looking for and help ensure everything is clearly presented during the process.

When filing a claim due to storm damage, it is also best practice for the homeowner to choose a contractor that is willing to be present during the insurance adjuster meeting/inspection. No matter how great your insurance adjuster, or contractor is at spotting damage, it can easily be overlooked. Having multiple opportunities to get eyes on the problem, and different eyes looking at the same thing can open up, or narrow the scope of the damage or work.

Plus, when your contractor is present for the adjuster’s inspection they can quickly point out the root of concern (in their opinion) which will knock that portion of the process out faster; allowing the adjuster more time to inspect more aspects of the property without going in to situation blind.
